Dental plans in Jersey & Guernsey: Denplan, practice plans and Harbour
Monthly dental plans are well established on the islands — but they're not all built the same. Here's an honest comparison to choose by.

The three kinds of plan you'll meet
Denplan is the UK's biggest name and is offered by some island practices. Its Essentials tier covers routine care (exams, hygiene, X-rays) with a modest treatment discount, while Denplan Care goes further, including routine restorative work, priced in bands after an oral health assessment. Two things to know before choosing it: joining starts with that in-practice assessment rather than online, and cosmetic dentistry — whitening, veneers, orthodontics, implants — sits outside the plans. Individual practice plans vary by practice; some are good value, though discounts often exclude exactly the cosmetic treatments people want, so read the exclusions line first. Harbour is the islands' group membership: routine care covered, same-day emergency access guaranteed in writing, and — unusually — the cosmetic side included, with £250 Luminous whitening and 10–20% off microveneers and bonding.
Compare on the five things that matter
| Question to ask | Why it matters | Harbour's answer |
|---|---|---|
| Can I join today, online? | Assessment-first joining adds weeks | Yes — leave your email, done in minutes |
| Is cosmetic work discounted? | Most plans exclude it entirely | Yes — whitening £250, 10–20% off veneers & bonding |
| What happens in an emergency? | "We'll fit you in" isn't a promise | Same/next working day, guaranteed — or the month's free |
| Does loyalty earn anything? | Most plans price year 10 like year 1 | Discounts and status rise at years 2, 3, 5 and 10 |
| What about the kids? | Child cover varies wildly | Every child under 18 free on the Crew Plan |
| Can I use more than one practice? | Single-practice plans can't roam | Any Port add-on: any dentist or hygienist, any practice (included on top tiers) |
Plan details change — always confirm current terms with any provider before joining.
Already on another plan?
Switching is easier than people assume: it's a new direct debit, not a divorce. Harbour waives the joining fee for switchers and — uniquely — honours your loyalty with tenure amnesty: years served on any plan count on the Harbour ladder from day one. Compare the plans or leave your email and we'll talk you through timing so there's no gap in cover.
