Mouthguards for the island seasons
Rugby, hockey and football all kick off in September across Jersey and Guernsey — and A&E sees the results every autumn. Here's the honest case for a proper mouthguard.

Boil-and-bite versus custom
A shop-bought boil-and-bite is better than nothing — but only just. They fit loosely, get chewed out of shape, and children park them in their sock at half-time because they can't breathe or talk in them. A custom guard, made from a quick impression or scan of your child's actual teeth, stays put, protects properly, and gets worn — which is the entire point.
When to get fitted
Late August, before the season — not October, after the incident. Growing mouths change, so check the fit each season and refit after significant new adult teeth arrive. Fixed braces? Tell us — guards can be made to work around orthodontics.
If a tooth gets knocked out anyway
Find the tooth, hold it by the crown (never the root), and if it's an adult tooth, reimplant it in the socket if you can or store it in milk — then get seen immediately. Minutes matter.
